Description

We’re kicking off a new project at the CGC: Treeforestation. Many of Cincinnati’s green spaces are overrun with invasive plants. As more and more ash trees come down, thinning our tree canopy, there is increasingly more room for invasive species (Japanese honeysuckle, Japanese knotweed, Garlic Mustard) to sneak in and take over. Therefore, rather than having our Christmas Tree Sale, we are kicking off this reforestation project to save and protect Cincinnati’s green spaces. We will begin by having a series of invasive removal workdays this fall and next spring. We will then begin planting native trees in the fall of 2019.

The first space we’re focusing on is Hoyes Field, a 10-acre property adjacent to Walnut Hills High School. We will be restoring it in collaboration with Walnut Hills High School, Cincinnati Parks, UC, Madtree, the Evanston Community and more. This will be an ongoing project, and we could use your help!
