The Bearcat experience is woven into the city of Cincinnati. Many UC students live, work, and engage in the neighborhoods surrounding our campus. In the true Bearcat spirit, our community matters to us. We're good neighbors. We take the following steps to create a positive living environment for ourselves and those next door.

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day at Burnet Woods!!

Join us on Saturday May 11th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at Burnet Woods for a special celebration of World Migratory Bird Day!

Location: Trailside Nature Center, 3251 Brookline Ave.

Burnet Woods, recognized as an Important Birding Area (IBA) by Audubon, offers a habitat teeming with diverse bird species, making it the ideal setting for this event. The festivities will start at 9:00 am and conclude at 2:00 pm.

Why the theme: “Protect Insects, Protect Birds”?

The theme highlights the symbiotic relationships between birds and insects, emphasizing the need to conserve our insect populations as a critical food source for migrating birds and as vital pollinators in our ecosystems. By protecting insects, we safeguard the birds that rely on them and maintain the balance of our natural world.

Activities Schedule:

· 9:00 am Bird Hike

Kick off the morning with a guided bird hike. Audubon’s Brian Keane and Denis Conover will lead a Bird Hike starting from Trailside Nature Center. This is a great opportunity for anyone from a novice to a seasoned birdwatcher to spot both feathered inhabitants of Burnet Woods and Migratory birds. Be sure to bring your binoculars!

· 10:00 am - 1:00 pm: Tabling Session

Engage with various local organizations at their informational booths. Our event partners will present their efforts in conservation and the importance of maintaining biodiverse habitats for bird populations. There will be lots of fun activities for all!

· 1:00-2:00 pm Nature Encounters:

Nature Encounters will present a Program in Trailside Nature Center from 1:00-2:00.

A Bird-Themed Educational Display focusing on the crucial interactions within ecosystems will also be available until 2:00 pm in the main room of Trailside.

This event is brought to life through the collaboration with several local organizations, including:

· Burnet Woods Park Advisory Council

· Miami Group Sierra Club

· Preserve Burnet Woods

· The Crow Knows/Carol Mundy

· The Solid Waste Caucus

· The Audubon Society

· The Bird Nerds / Civic Garden Center

Each organization brings unique insights and resources that enrich the experience and deepening participants' understanding of Migratory birds and their current plight.

Let's come together to celebrate the amazing journeys of migratory birds and the indispensable insects that sustain them. See you there!
