Park in the first parking area just after you enter the Park. We will gather there for an overview of the project, and then plant from the entrance towards the back of the park.
Volunteers will use shovels to backfill holes to plant trees. Pitchforks will be used to load mulch into wheelbarrows & rakes to distribute mulch around planted trees throughout the designated areas.
Some of the advantages of mulch: Protects the soil from erosion, reduces compaction from the impact of heavy rains, conserves moisture, reducing the need for frequent waterings, maintains a more even soil temperature, prevents weed growth, provides a protective barrier from equipment like mowers, and lastly - it provides a "finished" look to the garden.
Volunteers should be prepared for the weather in lightweight/layered clothing and long pants. Wear clothing suitable for dirty work and movement. Close-toed shoes are required. Recommended: Work gloves (if you own them), sunscreen, and a refillable water bottle. There will be work gloves available to borrow and a water
