Bearcats in the Garden — Volunteer Mornings at Boone County Arboretum

Calling all UC alumni and students! Spend a few hours each week outdoors, learn new horticulture skills, and help keep the Arboretum looking its best.

When

  • Every Tuesday & Thursday, April 1 – October 30
8:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. (come for one morning or make it a weekly habit)

What You’ll Do

  • Plant seasonal annuals and vegetable beds

  • Prune, weed, and mulch trees and shrubs

  • Install plant labels, signs, and small hardscape features

  • Pitch in on special projects that refresh high‑profile display areas

What We Provide

  • All tools and materials (feel free to bring your own hand tools—just label them)

  • On‑the‑spot guidance from our horticulture staff

  • Lunch, snacks, and plenty of camaraderie

Grow Your Impact: Complete a brief training session, and you can “adopt” a garden bed or feature area to maintain on your own schedule. Volunteers also help design and build larger enhancement projects throughout the season.

Why Join?

  • Hands‑on experience for budding horticulturists

  • Networking with fellow Bearcats and green‑industry professionals

  • A tangible way to give back to the community and the planet

Ready to dig in? We can’t wait to garden alongside you!
