Each year, millions of visitors spend time in our downtown parks. From enjoying fun recreational activities with the family, walking through the world class gardens, attending events and celebrating Bengals and Reds victories along the beautiful Ohio river. The breathtaking beauty, the history, and the access to nature means so much for parks enthusiasts, and to our dedicated community who care for the parks. We rely heavily on the support of volunteers to help maintain and keep our urban parks the special destination that it is.
Tasks at Ziegler will include planting bulbs that will bloom in spring and mulching floral display beds and tree rings. Ornamental grasses will be cut back d\for the winter.
Be prepared for the weather, wear long pants and layers (long sleeves), close-toed shoes are required. Gloves recommended, there will be a limited supply on site. Suggested: refillable water bottle - there will be water cooler on site for volunteers to fill a bottle. Cincinnati Parks discourages single - use plastics.
Volunteers will use pitchforks to load mulch in to wheelbarrows and heavy rakes to distribute the mulch around the trees. Parks staff and our experienced volunteers will provide orientation and guidance through the process. Loppers and handsaws will be used to cut back invasive plants. Litter sticks and buckets/bags will be used to remove litter.
