The Arlitt PlayScape is located on campus nestled between Sigma Sigma commons and French Hall West (HERE). At the intersection of W. University Ave and Commons Way, this special area on our campus provides a place for children to learn and play.
The playscape can use a little clean up! Volunteers are needed to help make the PlayScape look its best.
Here's what to expect:
- Meet at the Arlitt PlayScape (HERE) at 10:00a
- We will spread mulch, sweep gravel, clean-up the sand pit, and rake leaves
- We will remove dangerous roots and generally tidy up the space
- We will have a great time while benefitting the youngest folks on our campus!
Here's how to prepare:
- Dress for the weather
- All tools and materials provided
- Consider bringing a water bottle and a snack
The Arlitt Child Development Center is one of the oldest demonstration preschools in the United States. Founded in 1925 as the University of Cincinnati Nursery School, the child development center is sustained in part by an endowment from UC professor and founder of the center, Dr. Ada Hart Arlitt. The center serves preschool children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds who are funded through Head Start and tuition fees.
The Arlitt PlayScape, a natural play space located on campus provides children attending Arlitt Child Development Center with a safe place to reconnect with nature. Time in nature has been found to have positive impacts on children’s growth, including motor, cognitive, and emotional development.
