The Powel Crosley Y will begin distributing Senior Food boxes in April 2023 and are looking for volunteers to help! Commitment is one hour a month.
The Y is helping to address food insecurity in our community. To encourage better nutrition amongst our senior population, a government-sponsored program called CSFP (Commodity Supplemental Food Program) provides food boxes to income-eligible seniors. The boxes contain nutritious foods including, fruits, vegetables, cheese, and shelf-stable items. Volunteers will help unload the boxes from the delivery truck and place them into inventory. When customers arrive, the volunteers will check identification, assist with paperwork, and distribute the boxes. Some customers may need assistance to their vehicles.
Volunteers are needed for receiving of food boxes on the last Monday of the month from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm, and distributing food boxes on the last Wednesday of the month from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm. Both receiving and distributing will take place at Powel Crosley YMCA.
