Support Cincinnati Parks grounds maintenance efforts. Volunteers are needed to help distribute mulch around playgroud area behind Tralside Nature Center.
Volunteers will use pitchforks to load mulch into wheelbarrows, and hard rakes to spread around swingset areas, picnic groves and tree rings.
Meet at the playgorund area in the basin behind Trailside Nature Center
Volunteers should be prepared for the weather (lightweight clothing), wear long pants. Close-toed shoes are required. Recommended: Work gloves (if you own them), sunscreen, face covering and a refillable water bottle. There will be work gloves available to borrow and a water cooler will be provided on site for volunteers to refill bottles. Cincinnati Parks discourages single use plastics.
Regarding Covid-19:
In efforts to stop the spread, for the safety of our staff, volunteers and community please consider the following guidelines:
- Do not participate If you or someone in your home is symptomatic (e.g., fever, cough, shortness of breath), or if someone you’ve come into close contact with is under investigation or diagnosed with a laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19.
- Please use face covering and practice social distancing at all times while on the site.
- Please use gloves at all times to handle the tools and equipment.
Some of the advantages of mulch: Protects the soil from erosion, reduces compaction from the impact of heavy rains, conserves moisture, reducing the need for frequent waterings, maintains a more even soil temperature, prevents weed growth, provides a protective barrier from equipment like mowers, and lastly - it provides a "finished" look to the garden.
