Moving out can generate an excessive amount of waste. In Uptown, most leases end around July 31st, so students and families are cleaning out to move during that week. In the past, this has caused a lot of furniture, trash, and other items to be left on the street or overflowing in dumpsters. In order to try to prevent this from happening, and to try to divert waste from the landfill, Uptown is offering extra trash dumpsters, recycling containers, and donation options during this time. The bins will be located at the vacant lot across from Crossroads Uptown Church (42 Calhoun St.) from 9am to 6pm July 27th through August 4th.
Volunteers are needed! As a volunteer, your job is to staff the site to make sure the trash dumpster, recycling dumpster and donation bin are used correctly. There will be three shifts per day for you to chose from.
