I AM ME is a youth symposium aimed at empowering youth by building their confidence and resilience to embracing who they are through meaningful workshops and by connecting youth and their families with community resources. I AM ME was started on the premise of two organizations, Behind Every Great Kid and Guiding Light Mentoring , who work with youth in the community who are underserved, have low self-esteem and are seeking approval and acceptance from society. In addition to this, both organizations have noticed that there aren’t many youth conferences in Cincinnati that are occur on a consistent basis. Both organizations support the youth conferences that are hosted annually such as, Young Not Silent, but if we are truly going to make an impact with our youth, we have to be consistent with programs offered for our youth and families.
This year, Behind Every Great Kid and Guiding Light Mentoring has partnered with a new organization, Ummah Strength, to present the 2nd Annual I AM ME Youth Symposium on Saturday, February 9, 2019 to be held at the Cincinnati Christian University. These nonprofit organizations are working together for one goal; IMPACTING THE LIVES OF OUR YOUTH AND COMMUNITIES. Over the past years, we have been providing youth from surrounding areas with mentoring, educational enrichment and adequate community resources.
The I AM ME Youth Symposium will offer youth workshops, a panel discussion, resource fair, keynote speaker, food, music and giveaways. Included in this year’s event, is a workshop for parents. We have partnered with Leadership Scholars to offer parents information on College & Admission, Navigating Financial Aid and Social/Emotional Skills to Improve Focus and Social Intelligence just to name a few. Our goal is to take a holistic approach when working with youth and their families to improve outcomes.
