Volunteers of all ages are welcome to join us as we learn about invasive plant species, why they are detrimental to our environment and ways we can combat their wide spread growth. Start the day with a brief lesson about the impact invasive plants have on our native biodiversity and also how to properly identify these harmful plants and how to remove them. We will then be going to our multiple trails around our 122 acre non-profit farm to search out and remove invasive plant species. Work side by side with passionate volunteers to cut down and remove these harmful plants from the surrounding forest of Gorman Heritage Farm.

How This Helps Our Community

Through this program we hope to educate volunteers on the negative impact invasive species play in our environment. Volunteers will learn how to identify these harmful plant species and the best ways to combat their growth, hopefully fully preventing their return. We will then take action here on our Farm against the invasive plants which gives hope that this can be done successfully in other areas of the community. This also helps support our mission here at the Farm to educate about environment, sustainability, nutrition, and agriculture. After the event, the volunteers can discuss ways to become advocates for invasive species removal and also how to create healthy habitats in their own homes and communities.

We are using several ways to advertise this volunteer opportunity but are consolidating the list through All For Good through the following link: https://www.allforgood.org/ projects/GQwYnjJ5 .

The class portion of this event will be wheelchair accessible but the volunteering section will be on our trails and other areas of the Farm on uneven ground and may not be as easily accessible.

Thank you in advance for your interest and support. We look forward to working with you.
