Theater Help: Shaw's The Widower's Houses

Expired

Description

Marjorie Book will be producing a one act play, "The Leader of the People," and a full length play, The Widower's Houses, in the coming months.  We are looking for help - both volunteers who could act in the casts of these plays and volunteers who are willing to help at rehearsals for one, two or three nights in the coming months.  Our cast members and volunteers are made up of people with and without disabilities (typically ages 12 through 90).  We frequently need volunteer help with assisting actors in learning lines and standing in for actors who may be absent.

With MBCES staff guidance, we seek college students to assist members with physical, intellectual and learning disabilities as well as members with autism spectrum disorders as we learn lines and blocking for our plays.

"The Leader of the People," written by John Steinbeck, originally appeared in his collection short stories, The Red Pony.  "The Leader of the People" tells the story of a family of ranch hand in California in the early 1900s.  The family works hard and tries to build for the future, but an aging grandfather on the ranch talks only of the glories of the American frontier past.

The Widower's Houses, written by George Bernard Shaw, chronicles the poor but aristocratic doctor, Henry Trench, who falls in love with Blanche.  After becoming engaged, Henry learns that Blanche's family money comes from her slumlord father who takes advantage of the poor.

Marjorie Book Continuing Education is a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to providing opportunities for people with and without disabilities to work together through community service, continuing education and theatrical performances.

Hope to meet you soon!
