About Last Mile Food Rescue
Last Mile Food Rescue (LMFR) is dedicated to reducing food waste and fighting hunger by rescuing surplus food and delivering it to community partners throughout Greater Cincinnati.
Position Purpose
The Volunteer Container Support Assistant helps support daily food rescue operations at LMFR’s on-site storage container. This role assists volunteers and staff with food rescue pickups and drop-offs, helps organize loads, and supports smooth operations in a fast-paced outdoor environment. This volunteer position plays an important role in ensuring rescued food is handled efficiently and safely so it can quickly reach community partners serving those in need.
Volunteer Responsibilities
· Assist volunteers with pickup and drop-off food rescue loads
· Help organize, move, and stage rescued food at the storage container
· Lift and move boxes weighing up to 50 pounds regularly
· Work inside refrigerated or cold storage environments
· Perform physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions
· Provide friendly and professional customer service to volunteers and partners
· Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
· Communicate with staff regarding incoming and outgoing rescues
Schedule & Expectations
· Flexible remote volunteer role based off your schedule and operational needs
· Approximately 5–15 hours per month
· Availability may occasionally include weekends, peak days throughout the week, holiday periods
· Training and support will be provided
Physical Requirements
· Ability to lift and carry 50-pound boxes repeatedly
· Ability to stand, bend, walk, and perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods
· Comfortable working in cold to freezing temperatures
· Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions
