Uptown Waste Diversion

Expired

Description

In partnership with Keep Cincinnati Beautiful, University of Cincinnati Sustainability, City of Cincinnati Department of Public Services, City of Cincinnati Office of Environment and Sustainability, and Clifton Heights CURC, we are joining forces to tackle an increase in waste that occurs annually as students move out of off-campus housing near the university.

Thanks to our sponsors: USquare, Uptown Rental Properties, Short Vine Association, The Port/Uptown Consortium/Hamilton County Landbank, CUF Neighborhood Association

Moving out can generate an excessive amount of waste. In Uptown, most leases end around July 31st, so students and families are cleaning out to move during that week. In the past, this has caused a lot of furniture, trash, and other items to be on the street or overflowing in dumpsters. In order to try to prevent this from happening, and to try to divert waste from the landfill, Uptown is offering extra trash and recycling dumpsters and will accept donations of usable items.

We're looking for volunteers to join with our site lead coordinator to assist with sorting of acceptable items. This is an outdoor event. Volunteers will work roughly 3 to 3.5 hour shifts as assigned (with some overlap to aid in the transition), helping to direct participants on where to place their trash, recyclables, electronics and reusable items.

Volunteers are needed to fill each shift!

**PLEASE NOTE: Participation in this waste diversion event is restricted to those within the Uptown neighborhoods-- students moving out of off-campus housing. This is not a public city-wide recycling event. Our monthly Don't Dump the 'Nati Waste Collection Event is still scheduled for the final Friday (July 25th 9am to 1pm at 3929 Cherry St, Cincinnati OH 45223)**

(Volunteers are welcome from anywhere! We'd love to have you join us!)
