The Archaeological Research Institute's Land Stewardship team is preparing for an upcoming event hosted at the Guard Archaeological Preserve that includes a Bioblitz, invasive species removal, and a Bugs and Bonfire gathering. This event invites the community to participate in land stewardship and citizen science while helping protect an active archaeological site. It’s also an opportunity to educate attendees about the connection between ecological health and cultural preservation.
When: July 19th
Time: 6pm-9pm
Where: Meet at 126 W High St. Lawrenceburg, IN 47025 and we will shuttle you 5 minutes up the road to our protected archaeological preserve.
Volunteer Overview: Volunteers are invited to help with data collecting of the varies species at our protected archaeological site, while also doing invasive plant removal. Training will be provided and volunteers are welcome to stay for the community bonfire and discussion of varies bug species in the area.
Goals for the event:
- Emphasize that the event takes place on a protected archaeological preserve
- Invite the public to contribute to ecological data collection and invasive species control
- Promote the educational value of the day and the connection between biodiversity and site preservation
- Encourage families and individuals to stay for the post-event bonfire gathering
