Community Outreach Intern Position
Groundwork Ohio River Valley Background:
Groundwork is where Justice and the Environment meet. We link the environment to quality-of-life initiatives through engagement, education, and employment. As part of the Groundwork USA network and the National Park Service, we create programs and projects that address community needs.
Community Outreach Intern Overview:
The Community Outreach Intern is an unpaid internship that will assist in engaging and mobilizing community members, organizations, and stakeholders to support Groundwork Ohio River Valley’s environmental and social justice initiatives. This internship role will last approximately 3 months with the
option to extend or to allow further flexibility if the applicant is enrolled in a participating university (this is not a requirement). This role is ideal for students or individuals passionate about community development, advocacy, and sustainability.
Job Responsibilities and Duties:
● Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating community engagement events, workshops, and outreach programs.
● Conduct outreach efforts to build relationships with community members, partners, and local organizations.
● Represent Groundwork Ohio River Valley at community meetings, events, and tabling opportunities.
● Assist with creating and distributing educational and promotional materials for outreach initiatives.
● Research and identify potential partnership opportunities to support the organization’s mission.
● Collect and analyze community feedback to enhance engagement strategies.
● Support administrative tasks related to community programs as needed.
● Take photos and videos at Groundwork events.
Requirements:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities.
● Willingness to engage in occasional evening or weekend events.
● Demonstrated ability to demonstrate and promote leadership characteristics, motivate, inspire youth, and serve as a role model for leadership behaviors.
● Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
● Ability to work well under pressure and manage sensitive or controversial subjects with tact, kindness, and professionalism.
● Ability to work remotely and on site.
● Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings.
● Experience in community engagement and advocacy.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Proficiency in Google Suites.
● Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive partnerships.
● Understanding of environmental changes and negative impacts on underserved communities, and the ways in which they can be improved.
● Experience in event planning, volunteer coordination, or grassroots organizing (preferred).
● Organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to multitask.
● Passion for environmental, racial and social justice, community development, and sustainability.
