About our Organization
The mission of CancerFree KIDS is to eradicate cancer as a life-threatening disease in children by funding promising research that might otherwise go unfunded.
How our organization engages UC students
At CancerFree KIDS, we do one thing. We fund childhood cancer research. CancerFree KIDS funds innovative research that has the promise of gentler treatments and cures for children with cancer. We know that seed money for novel ideas is critical, and yet it is the most difficult type of funding to get. Potentially game-changing ideas often go untried due to lack of funding. CancerFree KIDS raises funds all year, through fundraising initiatives we host ourselves and those hosted by others for our benefit, and then we give it all away at the end of the year in the form of research grants. Then we start over. On November 29, 2023 CancerFree KIDS awarded $1,250,000 in research grants to projects at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, OH). This makes our lifetime grants come to $9.45M!
We will host Night for the Fight, a high school overnight, on February 15, 2025 at the 5/3 Arena on UC's campus. We anticipate 1200 high school students from the Greater Cincinnati Area to attend, where they will hear from childhood cancer survivors and families, play games, eat, dance, walk laps, and participate in a meaningful tribute to those who have battled cancer, are currently battling cancer or who lost their battle with cancer. Many volunteers are needed for this event.
