About our Organization
The Harriet Beecher Stowe House, located in Walnut Hills, is an historic house museum that is part of the Ohio History Connection network. We tell the story of Harriet and the 18 years that she spent in Cincinnati as instrumental in developing her anti-slavery passion and enabling her to write Uncle Tom’s Cabin. In sharing the story of abolitionism, we can relate her words and deeds to social justice issues today.
How our organization engages UC students
We operate a museum of ideas and conduct educational programs both at our location and off-site. Through storytelling, discussions, immersive activities, and community engagement the Harriet Beecher Stowe House strives to extend the work begun in 1830s Cincinnati by Harriet and her contemporaries: to replace prejudice and greed with acceptance and kindness. Our mission is to preserve and sustain that legacy. It continues to have profound effects on today’s society.
