About our Organization

First Generation Leaders of America (FGLA) was founded in 2015 by a CPS Woodward graduate that wanted to help at-risk youth become resilient leaders who can overcome the obstacles of life. Our founder attended the University of Cincinnati for 4 years studying political science and liberal arts. FGLA is a 10-month holistic mentoring program that mentors kids 7-18. We provide in-school & after-school programs ( leadership development, career, anti-bullying, & entrepreneurship) that connect kids with mentors to equip them with the essential tools to navigate school, career, entrepreneurship, and life.

Mission

Our mission is to help our nation’s youth self regulate & manage their social, physical, mental, & emotional health to prepare them for entrepreneurship, college, & careers to become contributing members of society.

 Vision

Our vision is to change the way the world views and treats our most vulnerable children.

How our organization engages UC students

Our youth mentoring programs fill a critical gap by connecting young people with aspirational, caring mentors who can instill positive values and demonstrate leadership qualities, helping our youth grow into productive and responsible adults. Our proven model embodies over six years of applied innovative mentoring approaches in the Greater Cincinnati area, serving young people grades 3-12 and others striving to better themselves. FGLA will provide professionally trained, mentors & facilitators to deliver our group mentoring sessions that hold 20-40 students in a classroom setting that occurs twice a week for 1-2 hours within a local elementary, high school, and/or a community center during classroom and after-school hours complementing the work of teachers, guidance counselors, & social workers.
