About our Organization
Warren Bennis, the 22nd president of UC and renowned as the “Father of Leadership,” championed the belief that leaders are made not born.
The Warren Bennis Leadership Institute (WBLI) aspires to harness Bennis’ legacy to transform leaders for a better tomorrow. We are committed to providing all students with leadership development opportunities such that they graduate as problem solvers, believing in their potential to lead and make a positive impact in the world.
Mission
Create a leadership movement at UC and serve as a hub for student leadership scholarship, programming, and events.
Provide leadership education to community leaders through executive education programs.
Function as a research lab dedicated to the study of evidence-based leadership development.
Core Values
We believe, as Bennis did, that leadership is not defined by a title or a position, but by the ability to connect with and empower others. Our core values reflect this belief:
Learner-centered: We believe that everyone has the potential to be a leader. Our programs are designed to help individuals unlock their leadership potential and develop the skills they need to make a positive impact.
Evidence-based: Our programs are grounded in research and theory on leadership development. We continually evaluate our impact to ensure that we are providing the best possible experience for our students.
Impactful: We believe that leadership is about making a difference in the world. Our programs are designed to help students develop the skills and knowledge they need to lead for the greater good.
Inclusive: We are an interdisciplinary institute committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and organizational leaders. We believe that diversity of thought and experience is essential to effective leadership.
Experiential: We believe that the best way to learn about leadership is by doing it. Our programs are highly interactive and use a variety of methods to engage students.
Student Leadership Development: Leadership courses, workshops and events including the annual Warren Bennis Leadership Experience.
Leadership Scholarship & Research: UC scholars conducting interdisciplinary research to examine and improve the leadership development process and outcomes.
