About our Organization

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is the leading private funder of research aimed at preventing, treating, and curing blinding retinal diseases such as retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, and Usher syndrome. Founded in 1971 by a passionate group of families affected by vision loss, FFB has since raised over $890 million to support groundbreaking research and clinical trials around the world. Through public education, advocacy, and community events like VisionWalks, FFB brings together patients, families, scientists, and supporters to drive progress toward a future free from inherited retinal diseases.

How our organization engages UC students

The Foundation Fighting Blindness sees a meaningful opportunity to engage University of Cincinnati students through service-learning, volunteerism, and community involvement. By partnering with student organizations such as Greek life, pre-health clubs, service fraternities, and academic societies, we can offer hands-on volunteer opportunities at events like the Cincinnati VisionWalk, where students can gain leadership experience while making a tangible impact. We also welcome the chance to speak at campus meetings, host awareness campaigns, and collaborate on fundraising initiatives, all while empowering students to support sight-saving research and advocacy for the visually impaired community.
