About our Organization

Urban Hikers is a community-based initiative founded in 2020 with the mission to promote outdoor education, physical wellness, and environmental stewardship within urban settings. Our organization specializes in curating accessible hiking experiences that reveal the hidden natural and cultural landscapes within urban environments. We partner with local experts including UC faculty, environmental scientists, and historians to create informative and engaging routes that highlight ecological systems, historical contexts, and social dynamics of our community spaces. Through our programming, we aim to foster deeper connections between UC students and their surrounding urban environment while promoting sustainable lifestyle practices.

How our organization engages UC students

Urban Hikers actively engages UC students through weekly educational hikes that combine physical activity with academic enrichment. We organize guided walking tours that explore local ecology, urban planning, architecture, and cultural history around campus neighborhoods. These experiential learning opportunities complement classroom education by bringing academic concepts to life through direct observation and interaction with the environment. We also provide internship opportunities for students studying environmental science, recreation management, and public health, allowing them to develop professional skills while leading community hikes.
