About our Organization

Ohio Crime Victim Justice Center is a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded to help ensure that the constitutional and statutory rights of Ohio’s state and federal crime victims are upheld throughout the criminal justice process.

How our organization engages UC students

OCVJC’s mission is to ensure that the rights of Ohio’s state and federal crime victims are enforced and protected. To fulfill its mission, OCVJC provides free legal representation and advocacy services to enforce crime victims’ rights and provide victims’ rights training to criminal justice system officials, allied professionals, drop-in trauma centers, and youth of all ages in school and after school programs in all of Ohio’s 88 counties. OCVJC offers advocacy and legal internships for students eager to support victim-survivors as they navigate the criminal justice system.Students will have the opportunity to shadow Victims' Rights Attorneys and Advocates based on their area of interest. They will collaborate closely with OCVJC staff to complete tasks such as submitting public records requests to law enforcement or prosecutor offices, assisting advocates with case management tasks, attending virtual meetings and trainings, accompanying attorneys/advocates to in-person/virtual hearings in both trials and appeals court, participating in community outreach events, contributing to safety planning, conducting research on victims' rights, assisting with case briefings, and updating resources as needed.
