About our Organization

The Bearcats Food Recovery Network is an organization dedicated to reducing food waste and hunger in the UC community. Additionally, we exist as a chapter of the National Food Recovery Network. After learning about both surplus food being thrown away and the food challenges present in our community, we decided to partner with UCRed and Bearcats Food Pantry to create a system that intends to bridge the gap between food insecurity and food waste.

How our organization engages UC students

Through our partnership with UCRed and Bearcats Food Pantry, we will be placing bins on the lobbies of every dorm on UC campus (in the spring) to collect food and other non-used items from students. These items will be donated to other individuals within our community. Volunteers consisted of UC students will help collect, sort, and distribute these donated goods to our community.
