Volunteer: Mindfulness & Cultural Wellness PracticesMindfulness practices have long been embedded in many Asian cultures as tools for grounding, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. These traditions were often passed down through generations as everyday practices rather than formal exercises. In today’s academic environment, students frequently balance rigorous coursework, work obligations, cultural adjustment, and emotional stress. For international students and those from immigrant families, these pressures can be compounded by language barriers, cultural expectations, and identity navigation. Our organization recognizes the importance of culturally rooted wellness practices that honor these experiences without adding additional strain. This mindfulness initiative is designed to support students in integrating moments of calm into their existing routines. The practice emphasizes intention over perfection and consistency over intensity. Above all, this program frames mindfulness as both a personal wellness tool and a culturally meaningful tradition. Culturally Rooted Practices East Asian Practices (Zen / Chan-Inspired Breathing & Stillness)Participants may begin by sitting comfortably or standing upright in a quiet space, keeping the spine relaxed but aligned. Attention should be gently placed on the natural rhythm of the breath, without attempting to control or change it. When thoughts arise, participants are encouraged to notice them without judgment and return focus to breathing. This practice emphasizes presence and patience, allowing calm to develop gradually rather than forcing relaxation. South Asian Practices (Mantra & Breath Awareness)Participants may choose a short calming word, sound, or phrase and repeat it silently or softly while maintaining steady breathing. The repetition should be slow and rhythmic, aligning with natural inhalation and exhalation. The focus is on the sound and vibration of the mantra rather than its meaning, although meaning may be personally significant. This practice helps cultivate concentration, grounding, and emotional stability during periods of stress. Southeast Asian Practices (Loving-Kindness & Walking Mindfulness)Participants may begin by sitting quietly and directing kind, supportive thoughts toward themselves before extending them outward to others. These reflections should be intentional and gentle, without forcing emotion or expectation. Alternatively, walking mindfulness may be practiced by moving slowly and deliberately, paying attention to each step and breath. This approach emphasizes compassion, connection, and awareness within everyday movement. East & Central Asian Practices (Gentle Movement & Body Awareness)Participants may engage in slow, controlled movements or stretches while maintaining steady breathing. Attention should be placed on physical sensations such as balance, tension, and release. Movements should be fluid and unhurried, prioritizing awareness over physical exertion. This practice supports mind-body connection and helps release stress accumulated through prolonged sitting or mental strain. Cross-Cultural Grounding Practices (Reflection & Sensory Awareness)Participants may focus on grounding techniques such as counting breaths, noticing surrounding sounds, or observing physical sensations. Journaling after the practice is encouraged to reflect on emotional state, stress levels, or personal insights. Writing should be open-ended and non-judgmental, focusing on awareness rather than outcomes. These practices allow participants to integrate mindfulness into daily academic life in a flexible and accessible way. Flexibility & Academic ConsiderationWe acknowledge that academic schedules, work commitments, and personal responsibilities can be demanding and unpredictable. Participants may divide their practice into shorter sessions throughout the day rather than completing it all at once. All exercises are adaptable to personal comfort levels and environmental constraints. The intent is to support student well-being while respecting the realities of educational life. Volunteer: Coding Help For Non-Profit Retail SiteWe are a fair trade non-profit retail organization and we are hoping to launch our first e-commerce site with Shopify asap but have run into an issue. We have two store locations and currently the site allows customers to add products from both stores into their cart, but then they cannot check out because some items are only available at one store. We need someone to write code that forces them to choose a store to shop from and only allows them to shop from that store's inventory. Having this website will allow us to reach more customers than ever and help support more artisans around the world with fair wages. Volunteer: Virtual Opportunity: Volunteer Researcher - Strengthen Local Volunteer ConnectionsDo you enjoy research and want to make a real difference in your community right from home? Join us as a Volunteer Researcher for Ways to Connect, a national crowdsourced directory of volunteer platforms. Many people want to volunteer but struggle to find the right entry points—especially in smaller towns or underserved areas. At the same time, local volunteer centers and grassroots groups often go unnoticed due to low visibility. Ways to Connect bridges this gap by helping people discover the best local websites, service clubs, and networks already in place. As a Volunteer Researcher, your work will directly improve the visibility of these resources, making it easier for neighbors to find meaningful ways to give back. So far, volunteer researchers have helped us identify over 2,500 resources in 330+ communities across the US. What You’ll Do: Conduct simple online research to identify local volunteer platforms, service clubs, mutual aid groups, and upcoming events for communities around the country. Update and enrich your community’s page on Ways to Connect, ensuring content is accurate, current, and inviting.
Why Volunteer with Inspiring Service? Flexibility: Volunteer anytime, anywhere—it’s fully remote. Small time commitment: Contribute as little as 2 hours, or as much as you’d like. Immediate impact: Your research helps neighbors discover real ways to serve their community. Skill-building: Strengthen online research, critical thinking, and content creation skills. Growth opportunities: Explore deeper involvement through our Ambassador Program. Recognition: See your contributions go live on a national platform, with the option to be credited on our Contributors page. Volunteer: About Me Board AssemblyEach “All About Me Board” is designed to capture the Favorite Things, Life Story and What Matters Most. Many of our patients struggle with communication barriers or advanced dementia. At a glance, anyone that walks into the room can have access to important information to give that patient a great experience. Each board is purposefully designed to look homemade, unique and specially made just for that patient. Pictures can be added to provide recognition and points of conversation. The HOC End of Life Doula will sit down and complete the board with either the caregiver and/or patient. Overall, HOC Navigators serve 6,000 patients each year – so we need a lot of help!!!! Our solution is to recruit Community Service Volunteers to help. Gather your businesses, churches, schools and social groups to do together. We also have open service days where you can meet new friends! Materials are provided or you can host a drive for scrapbook paper, stickers and glue to support the effort prior to serving. HOC will provide a workspace, speaker and facilitator if desired. Each person needs to bring their own pair of scissors, a water bottle, creativity and desire to make a difference! This project can also be done as a remote service opportunity. You must have an appointment to volunteer. Please email Lauren_Athey@trihealth.com to schedule. Volunteer: Volunteer as a Conversation PartnerAre you ready to change a life from the comfort of home? Join ENGin as a conversation partner! This is a flexible and unique opportunity to make a direct impact on someone’s life while discovering a new culture and meeting a new friend. We’ll pair you up with a buddy in Ukraine for weekly videochats at times that are convenient for you. During your conversations, you’ll practice English with your partner, learn about each other’s cultures, and offer an empathetic, authentic space for connection. No teaching experience or knowledge of Ukrainian is required to volunteer with us. All of our participants can understand and hold a basic conversation in English. We offer ample training resources, session materials and total flexibility to customize your sessions to fit your/your partner’s goals and preferences. You’ll also have access to online communities to share ideas and ask questions. Our only requirements for volunteers are English fluency, a strong internet connection, and the ability to commit to one hour a week for a minimum of 10-12 weeks. Here's what three ENGin volunteers say about their experience. "I'm so glad that I got this experience and was able to make a new friend. By putting in a small amount of time, I'm able to make a huge impact on my student. "This program has been, I think, life-changing for both of us. I really consider her more like my daughter right now. That's how close we have become! "I made a friend in Ukraine and we are teaching each other about our culture, our language, and our humor. We're even trading dad jokes! Both of us look forward to our chats and have a hard time wrapping it up." To learn more about ENGin and become a volunteer, please visit www.enginprogram.org/volunteer or register to attend one of our weekly Zoom info sessions here. Info sessions are an opportunity to meet one of our team members, learn more about ENGin, and ask questions. If you have any questions before signing up, please contact our team at info@enginprogram.org. Organization: ENGin Are you ready to change a life from the comfort of home?
