Volunteer: Spanish-Speaking Volunteer

This position is for MEDICAL & PHARMACY STUDENTS only.

This position is open to any medical/pharmacy student that is proficient in Spanish. Visitors of the Healing Center come for basic needs such as food and clothing. Your role will be to assist other volunteers in communicating with Spanish-speaking individuals during patient intake, health screening visits, and other non-clinical scenarios. You will NOT be performing as an interpreter for any clinical patient encounters. Additional responsibilities may involve operating the UC SRFC front desk at the Healing Center. This includes but is not limited to advertising our free health screenings, clinic visits, and other medical resources within the community. You may also be asked to assume the responsibilities of one of the other volunteer roles depending on the needs that clinic day.

Please arrive at the Healing Center by 8:30 AM. Park behind the building and enter through the staff/volunteer entrances in the back or along the side of the building. Once inside the warehouse, locate the door designated for volunteers. Continue forward through the hallway and past the check-in desk to enter the main lobby. Walk towards the right and past the marketplace and clothing store to meet the team in room 490.

Patient Assistance Programs (PAPs)
Pharmacy Formulary
Pharmacy attending (if present) and student scheduling processCheck in any medications received from the stock room including OTC medications for
restockMaintain inventory of pharmacy supplies, including medications, labels, containers, etc.
Ensure all supplies are present or transported to the clinicCoordination of pharmacy student volunteers

Clinic Flow
• Verify that all necessary pharmacy equipment and supplies are in place for clinic
• Process PAP medications, if applicable
• Stock formulary medications in appropriate area
• Assist pharmacy students in locating ordered stock and medications. Discuss
suggested recommendations.
• Accept pharmacy orders from medical students after review by attending physician
• Facilitate all pharmacy management, including stocking and disposing of
medications and providing medication management services

At Close
• Ensure Pharmacy Student Volunteer has reconciled and reported all medications
dispensed and prescribed and assured all patient medications have been ordered/requested
• Ensure Pharmacy Students have checked in prior to leaving
