Volunteer: Companionship VolunteerA Companion Volunteer at Bella Care Hospice of Cincinnati plays a vital role in bringing comfort, connection, and emotional support to patients during their end-of-life journey. These volunteers provide non-medical, one-on-one companionship by spending quality time with patients—offering conversation, reading, listening to music, playing games, or simply sitting quietly to provide a comforting presence.
Companion Volunteers help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation for our patients and often become a familiar and friendly face in their lives. Volunteers may visit patients in private homes, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes—wherever the patient calls home. This role is ideal for compassionate individuals who are good listeners, reliable, and genuinely want to make a difference. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from the Bella Care Hospice team. Flexible scheduling allows volunteers to serve in a way that fits their availability while fulfilling a deeply meaningful mission. By sharing your time, heart, and presence, you can help bring peace, dignity, and companionship to those who need it most. Volunteer: About Me Board AssemblyEach “All About Me Board” is designed to capture the Favorite Things, Life Story and What Matters Most. Many of our patients struggle with communication barriers or advanced dementia. At a glance, anyone that walks into the room can have access to important information to give that patient a great experience. Each board is purposefully designed to look homemade, unique and specially made just for that patient. Pictures can be added to provide recognition and points of conversation. The HOC End of Life Doula will sit down and complete the board with either the caregiver and/or patient. Overall, HOC Navigators serve 6,000 patients each year – so we need a lot of help!!!! Our solution is to recruit Community Service Volunteers to help. Gather your businesses, churches, schools and social groups to do together. We also have open service days where you can meet new friends! Materials are provided or you can host a drive for scrapbook paper, stickers and glue to support the effort prior to serving. HOC will provide a workspace, speaker and facilitator if desired. Each person needs to bring their own pair of scissors, a water bottle, creativity and desire to make a difference! This project can also be done as a remote service opportunity. You must have an appointment to volunteer. Please email Lauren_Athey@trihealth.com to schedule.
