Opportunities From: Center for Community Engagement

Saturday Hoops is a free group mentoring program of Cincinnati Youth Collaborative that strives to make a safe space for kids (ages 5-18) on Saturdays for them to learn new things, meet new friends, and develop skills that will help them become future leaders. We create this opportunity by providing food (breakfast and lunch) and doing activities such as basketball, soccer, arts and crafts, reading, yoga, football, workouts, and so much more. We also establish this safe space by having our volunteers promote a positive environment and demonstrating our core themes to students (Cheerful Giver, Hard Worker, Overcomer, and Good Steward). Join us in connecting with kids every Saturday from 9:30 am to 12:30 at one of our locations (Avondale, West End, Winton Hills). 

Would you like to make a difference in an inner city neighborhood in Cincinnati? We're helping seniors who can't keep up with the work needed around their houses. We need volunteers to paint, clean out brush, and perform basic repairs inside and outside homes in Avondale.  No experience is necessary, just a willing heart and helping hands!

Please dress in older clothes because you'll get messy!  

Where: Meet at Compassionate Justice Ministry Center, 3494 Reading Road, Cincinnati, OH 45229.

We’d love to have you join us in the art room on Mondays and/or Tuesdays! Come help students with their projects and lend a hand hanging artwork in our school halls.

We are looking for UC students who enjoy playing chess and are interested in volunteering with our elementary students. Don't know how to play chess? We could still benefit from having you sit with the students to encourage them and to assist the chess coach with logistics. Join us! 

Love playing with kids? We'd love to have you help with childcare on Sunday, October 12 from 1:30pm - 5:30pm. The parents/caregivers will be adults from our school, as well as the greater community. We have great green space as well as an awesome playground under our school. Our building sits on stilts so kids can play outside rain or shine. If the weather is not amazing, we also have a big gym and cafeteria for inside play.

Join us as a childcare volunteer during our monthly foster parent meetings! You'll help supervise and engage children in fun activities while caregivers attend training.

Start your Halloween season by carving pumpkins with the City of Fort Thomas. If you aren't feeling creative, come on in and clean the pumpkins for someone else to design.   The community is welcome to join us, and we promise some spooky good Halloween music to get you in the spirit.

If you donate Platelets/Plasma you will receive five (5) hours of community service.

If you are DEFFERRED (not allowed to donate due to a medical issue that is not your fault), you can submit up to two 2 hours for your time.

Once you have donated and submitted your hours for approval, we will look in our system to verify your donation and then approve your hours.  If you haven't donated yet, please do not submit time for hours, as we will verify all hours with our donation records and if we don't find your information, will decline your hours.

As a Welcome Mentor, you’ll play a vital role in creating a warm and supportive environment for English learners. Looking for volunteers for the upcoming Christkindlmarkt Festival this November 7, 8, 9. On average, our shifts are 5-hour intervals, but you're welcome to stay as long as you want. With every shift, there is free authentic German food and drinks provided. Our need is for people to help out with the parking crew, the largest volunteer group at the Germania Society of Cincinnati. During the weekend, the parking crew tackles so many tasks and oversees thousands of guests coming in and out of the event. Tasks include, but are never limited to directing traffic, working the entry gates, providing golf cart services to elderly and volunteers, communicating with the law enforcement and medics on site, cleaning up any trash left in the yards, etc. Any caliber of help from all ages is welcome and encouraged, feel free to bring your family along as well. Every volunteer gets free entry into the event after their shift is completed. Come support Cincinnati's oldest Oktoberfest with the Germania Society of Cincinnati. 

Each year the Miami Historical Society of Whitewater Township hosts a local Ghost Talk in Miamitown, Ohio,  whereby people come to share their real ghost experiences. The MHS is seeking someone to help edit audio/visual content into stories we can present that evening to the people who would like to share their experiences but are unable to attend.

We are looking for someone who will use their audio/video skills to take clips and create a short video that we can use.   

This project is for someone who is studying media production / related fields.  This is a great opportunity to build your portfolio.

After we review that information, we will have a zoom conversation with you to tell you more about our wishes.  You will be able to keep a copy of this project for your portfolio showing the editing process you completed.  The one hour time frame is for the initial meeting.  We will gladly sign for time used to create the project.

Cincinnati Urban Promise is a safe place for students to engage in learning and fun after school. Volunteers build relationships with students and help guide them in their activities. Cincinnati Urban Promise is a Christ-centered environment where all are welcome.  The after school program operates Monday to Thursday from 2:30-6:00pm.

Volunteers should come to the door at the south end of the building to gain entry.

Help maintain the indoor & outdoor gardens at a youth agricultural education program. When the weather is good, we'll be building garden spaces or planting, harvesting, and weeding.

In bad weather, we will move indoors to take care of our hydroponic farm or process food.

Guiding Light Mentoring is seeking a volunteer to help create and design their 2024 annual report. The report will include program services, total youth served, financial information, etc. from 2024. 

Responsibilities include:

Design Layout: Create a cohesive visual layout for the report that includes a cover page, table of contents, and sections for text, images, and graphs. Ensure the design aligns with the organization's branding guidelines.

Integration of Content: Integrate provided text and images into the layout, ensuring all elements are well-organized and easy to navigate.

Revisions and Deliverables: Provide up to three rounds of revisions based on feedback from the organization to ensure the final product meets expectations. Deliver a print-ready PDF version of the Annual Report and an editable version (if applicable) for future updates.

Collaboration: Work closely with the organization to understand the key messages and themes that need to be communicated in the report.

Experience: Experience in designing reports or publications is highly desirable.

These responsibilities highlight the importance of the Annual Report Designer's role in creating a report that is both informative and engaging for stakeholders. The designer's ability to balance visual appeal with data-driven insights is crucial for the success of the report.

Birthdays are moments of joy and everyone deserves to feel special. Join our birthday program volunteers and bring magic to our elderly friends on their big day. A few weeks before each month, we'll send out a list of upcoming birthdays. Choose the dates that suit you best and let us know which elder you'd like to visit. Confirm by email and on the big day, pick up their birthday bag and cake. Then comes the best part – deliver the goodies and spend some quality time celebrating with our elder friends. It's a heartwarming way to brighten someone's day!

Lend a hand to local seniors who need help with basic yard work! Volunteers will assist with mowing, weed pulling, and light cleanup to keep lawns safe and tidy.

Would you like to make a difference in an inner city neighborhood in Cincinnati? We're helping seniors who can't keep up with the work needed around their houses. We need volunteers to paint, clean out brush, and perform basic repairs inside and outside homes in Avondale.  No experience is necessary, just a willing heart and helping hands!

Please dress in older clothes because you'll get messy!

Inclement Weather Plan: We work in any weather as long as the roads are safe to travel.

We are looking for youth soccer coaches for the FC Cincinnati Foundation West End Pride program. Teams available from Preschool to U14, both boys and girls teams available. All equipment will be provided, and no soccer coaching experience needed. Each team will have 2+ coaches so you will not have to run the team alone, and you can sign up with your friends!

Practice will be once a week from 6-7:30pm, with 1-2 games most weekends. Season will run from mid August to late October.

GiGi’s Playhouse Cincinnati is looking for dedicated UC students to serve as 1:1 literacy tutors for individuals with Down syndrome. Reading is more than just a skill—it’s a key to independence, inclusion, and lifelong learning. But here’s the challenge: we can only match about 50% of our participants due to a shortage of volunteers. You can help change that.

As a tutor, you’ll be paired with one student and commit to just one hour a week for 10–15 weeks. We’ll provide all the training and materials you need, tailored to how individuals with Down syndrome learn best. You’ll use a proven, research-based approach that focuses on comprehension, speech, memory, and most importantly—confidence.

The Stowe Park Advisory Council launched efforts in 2025 to support the gardens and grounds of the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. Plans include improving gardens by removing invasive species, planting natives and installing educational signage. The CPAC is working in collaboration with the Harriet Beecher Stowe House leadership.

Join the Grail for our monthly volunteer days to remove invasive plants so our beneficial native plants and wildlife can flourish. By volunteering, you’ll not only contribute to the health of our ecosystem but also enhance the beauty of over 70 acres of land enjoyed by visitors and hikers.

These volunteer days are held on the second Saturdays of each month from 9 am to 12 pm at The Grail’s Headquarters, Grailville, 931 O'Bannonville Rd, Loveland, OH 45140. Volunteers will use loppers, hand saws, and chainsaws (for those who are comfortable with them) to cut down and cut up invasive honeysuckle and Callery Pear from the property as well as pull out other invasive plants. Each “All About Me Board” is designed to capture the Favorite Things, Life Story and What Matters Most. Many of our patients struggle with communication barriers or advanced dementia. At a glance, anyone that walks into the room can have access to important information to give that patient a great experience. Each board is purposefully designed to look homemade, unique and specially made just for that patient. Pictures can be added to provide recognition and points of conversation.

The HOC End of Life Doula will sit down and complete the board with either the caregiver and/or patient. Overall, HOC Navigators serve 6,000 patients each year – so we need a lot of help!!!! Our solution is to recruit Community Service Volunteers to help. Gather your businesses, churches, schools and social groups to do together. We also have open service days where you can meet new friends!

Materials are provided or you can host a drive for scrapbook paper, stickers and glue to support the effort prior to serving. HOC will provide a workspace, speaker and facilitator if desired. Each person needs to bring their own pair of scissors, a water bottle, creativity and desire to make a difference! This project can also be done as a remote service opportunity.
