At the Mount Airy site, 15 scholars will be working in the Smaller Garden area on a mix of gardening and restoration tasks. They’ll help grow and maintain food plants and support the children’s area, while also focusing on removing invasive honeysuckle on the hillside and around trees. This includes cutting the honeysuckle using handsaws, flagging the stumps, and applying herbicide to prevent regrowth. Scholars will also clear out leftover brush and debris from the area to fully remove honeysuckle roots and shoots. Finally, they’ll sheet mulch a grass circle by layering cardboard and compost to suppress weeds and prepare the area for future planting. Plan to arrive at by the Arts & Sciences building at 8:15 AM.
