Social Media Intern Position

Groundwork Ohio River Valley Background:

Groundwork is where Justice and the Environment meet. We link the environment to quality-of-life initiatives through engagement, education, and employment. As part of the Groundwork USA network and
the National Park Service, we create programs and projects that address community needs.


Social Media Intern Overview:
The Social Media Intern is an unpaid internship that will assist in creating and managing digital content to engage Groundwork Ohio River Valley’s audience and amplify our impact. This internship role will last
approximately 3 months with the option to extend or to allow further flexibility if the applicant is enrolled in a participating university (this is not a requirement). This role is ideal for individuals interested in social media strategy, digital marketing, and storytelling for social change.


Job Responsibilities and Duties:
● Working with Program staff and Green Team to develop, curate, and schedule engaging content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube).
● Monitor engagement, respond to comments/messages, and foster online community interactions.
● Assist in creating graphics, videos, and other multimedia content using design tools like Canva or Adobe Express.
● Support social media campaign planning, including environmental awareness initiatives.
● Research and identify digital trends and best practices for nonprofit outreach.
● Assist Operations Director with utilizing the Organization’s branding toolkit to ensure all staff are provided with a clear understanding of our best branding practices.
● Assist Operations Director with maintaining the organization’s website and ensuring that it stays up to date with current staff, news, job postings, etc.
● Manage and maintain the Social Media Calendar to schedule posts for all program areas.
● Update brochures, fliers, business cards, other electronic and printed materials to adhere to our branding guidelines.
● Maintain a photo and video library specifically in addition to all digital assets.


Requirements:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Strong editing and design skills.
● Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Ability to work remotely and on-site.
● Flexible and positive attitude with the ability to work in a variety of settings.
● Strong understanding of various social media platforms and their features.
● Strong writing, editing, and creative storytelling skills.
● Experience with social media management and content creation.
● Familiarity with design and video editing tools such as Canva, and Adobe Express.


Preferred Qualifications:
● Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
● Proficiency with work productivity software, writing, and presentation software.
● Understanding of climate change, climate impacts, and mitigation strategies.
● Experience in community engagement and advocacy.
● Intermediate computer knowledge
● Familiar with social media analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Facebook Creator Studio)
● Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive partnerships.
● Passion for racial, social and environmental justice, sustainability, and community engagement.

option to extend or to allow further flexibility if the applicant is enrolled in a participating university (this is not a requirement). This role is ideal for students or individuals passionate about community development, advocacy, and sustainability.

Job Responsibilities and Duties:
● Assist with planning, organizing, and facilitating community engagement events, workshops, and outreach programs.
● Conduct outreach efforts to build relationships with community members, partners, and local organizations.
● Represent Groundwork Ohio River Valley at community meetings, events, and tabling opportunities.
● Assist with creating and distributing educational and promotional materials for outreach initiatives.
● Research and identify potential partnership opportunities to support the organization’s mission.
● Collect and analyze community feedback to enhance engagement strategies.
● Support administrative tasks related to community programs as needed.
● Take photos and videos at Groundwork events.

Requirements:
● Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to work collaboratively with diverse communities.
● Willingness to engage in occasional evening or weekend events.
● Demonstrated ability to demonstrate and promote leadership characteristics, motivate, inspire youth, and serve as a role model for leadership behaviors.
● Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a team.
