Volunteer: Writing Workshop

Our mission is to bring teenagers and adults with and without disabilities together for projects of mutual interest.  We have proudly offered continuing education classes, service projects and theatrical plays to the community for the last 30 years.

This workshop is a follow up to our ongoing Local Writers and Local Poets classes.  We will spend about 90 minutes developing your pieces of writing that you have already begun in class or at home.  This is a great way to put pen to paper or finger to keyboard and revise and enhance a story that you have started previously in our workshops.  After having finished memoir writing, we are slowly working on developing our second piece of writing, which is focused on world buiding.  Anyone is welcome – just know that this is primarily a workshop to get writing time (and not a class on writing).

Volunteers will work with participants with disabilities to facilitate getting words to paper and brainstorming ideas as well as participating in the class.

To help you, and our participants to get the most of the experience, volunteers are asked to read our volunteer handout prior to attending an event.

Before you begin all volunteers MUST apply online at https://cincinnatianimalcare.org/volunteer-with-cac/ and complete the required volunteer onboarding and training process. DO NOT come to the shelter until training has been completed and you have signed up for a volunteer shift on CAC's platform My Impact Page. Signing up on UC's platform does not translate to CAC's schedule and you run the risk of being turned away. Volunteer hours will NOT be approved until you have completed all volunteer training and your hours have been recorded on your My Impact Page and verified. If volunteer hours can't be verified in our system they will be denied.**

Our weekly Vaccine Clinic is one of the most impactful ways we serve the community, providing affordable vaccines and microchips that help pets stay healthy and keep families together. We can’t do this without volunteers—your time directly helps dozens of pets and their people every week.

Our Vaccine Clinic is every Thursday 1-3pm at our Colerain location. We need volunteers to help greet, check in guests, and draw up vaccines.

Enrichment is an important part of animal care at CAC, it helps to keep our dogs from getting bored and keeps their body and minds active. Enrichment serves as the fun and engaging items that our dogs get to play with while in their kennels including kongs, lick mats, pupsicles and more! Enrichment engages a dog's mind and senses to help reduce stress and overall leads to better mental and physical health... in a shelter environment this is especially crucial! During a shift volunteers will help with a variety of tasks including: prepping enrichment items, distributing enrichment items into or on kennels, cleaning or putting away enrichment items, cleaning or organizing the enrichment room.

This opportunity occurs at both Colerain and Dane.

Volunteer: Coding Help For Non-Profit Retail Site

We are a fair trade non-profit retail organization and we are hoping to launch our first e-commerce site with Shopify asap but have run into an issue. We have two store locations and currently the site allows customers to add products from both stores into their cart, but then they cannot check out because some items are only available at one store. We need someone to write code that forces them to choose a store to shop from and only allows them to shop from that store's inventory. Having this website will allow us to reach more customers than ever and help support more artisans around the world with fair wages.

Volunteer: Serve Breakfast and Start your Day with Heart!

Looking for a meaningful way to start your morning? Join our breakfast team at St. Francis Seraph Ministries and help serve a hot meal to our neighbors experiencing poverty in Over-the-Rhine.

From coffee to conversation, every plate you serve helps build connection, dignity, and hope. It’s more than breakfast — it’s community.

Breakfast Shift: 6:45 AM – 9:00 AM (Monday–Friday)

Each morning, our volunteers work side by side to serve food and smiles. You’ll leave energized, inspired, and ready to take on your day — knowing you’ve made a difference before most people have had their first cup of coffee.

Where You’ll Find Us:

St. Anthony Center (corner of Liberty and Republic), just 1.5 miles from UC.
Free parking is available in front of the building or behind St. Francis Seraph School (enter from Vine St. and park between the green school fence and Hubert St.).

Whether you’re naturally an early riser or just want to try something new, breakfast service is a beautiful way to begin the day with purpose.

Volunteer: BioBlitz at Bull's Run Arboretum

Head out with your camera and take photos of the plants and animals you see within Bull's Run. We are using the free iNaturalist app to gather data on the various species of plants and animals living at Bull's Run. All you need is your phone and the app.

How: Take close up pictures and it will directly input them into our project (location needs to be turned on). The newest release of iNaturalist makes suggestions for the species you are submitting.

Why: We use the data you collect to figure out if there are critters or plants living there that need extra protection, or if there are invasives that we need to work on clearing out.

When: Our BioBlitz runs all September and October. You can visit the arboretum anytime from dawn til dusk. Spend 5 minutes or 5 hours, this is totally up to you.

See the results: You can visit the project to see other peoples submissions at https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/fall-2025-bull-s-run-arboretum-bioblitz

Get the app or use a traditional camera: You will need to either download iNaturalist to your phone and have location turned on. Or, if you use a traditional camera you can submit online. Both the app link and the online submissions can be found at https://www.inaturalist.org/

Parking and Map: Free onsite parking and a trail map is located at the entrance.
