There are hundreds of awesome agency pages on volunteer.uc.edu...

So it is important to think about what is going to make your agency page stand out.

Many of the users on our website are college students that are loaded down daily with information about campus, class, and overall college survival.

They are in complete:

Therefore, it is important to create a page that is overall fun and engaging, and as mentioned in Tip 1, can get students' attention in under 8 seconds.
First Impressions are everything. So make sure to take that into account when designing your agency page. What is the first thing volunteers see?

The Agency Logo. Use a logo that is roughly as wide as it is tall. Perfect squares and circles are the best. Use the cropping tool to crop out as much surrounding white space as you can, or crop the image before uploading it. If you decide not to insert a logo the first letters of your agency will be posted in the logo box.

Agency logo or image needs to be clear, centered, engaging and visible this will help gain the attention of your target audience.

It is also important to be engaging when posting a Need. When adding a need make the title of the need something that will captivate the audience's attention. Steer away from phrases like "Volunteers Needed" or "Help Wanted".

Tip: If you're going to be providing snacks, coffee, or swag of any kind, be sure and include that information in the need posting. Volunteers want to make a difference, but adding a few perks to the job won't hurt!

Example: From greeting guests to serving food; cleaning tables to serving beverages. It is our volunteers who enable us to be here for our guests every day. One of the most important things we do is to treat our guests with dignity and respect, and as a volunteer this is part of your job too.

A warm smile or some friendly conversation can really help brighten our guests' days - and as a volunteer you might be surprised at how much this experience will brighten yours as well!

When designing your agency page, always ask yourself:

1. Is this specific?
2. Is this engaging?

and finally

3. Does this share our story?

Hopefully you found this helpful. See the next post for Tip 3: Share Your Story
