About our Organization
We are the University of Cincinnati ACM-W Chapter. ACM-W (the Association for Computing Machinery Committee on Women) supports, celebrates, and advocates internationally for the full engagement of women in all aspects of the computing field, providing a wide range of programs and services to ACM members and working in the larger community to advance the contributions of technical women.
How our organization engages UC students
Our ACM-W chapter at UC offers students activities, projects and access to events that aim to improve the working and learning environment for women in computing.
We have a local volunteer program called Bearcat Coders (with funding from Google igniteCS) where volunteers mentor students during technology classes at local schools to help students explore their interest in technology, guide them with their projects, and aid with their professional development. No coding knowledge is required to participate.
We also host an annual day long event called DigiGirlz with Microsoft to allow young girls to learn more about their opportunities in technology through fun coding activities and networking with Microsoft professionals and college students.
Both of these programs count for service hours for scholarships like Cincinnatus, UC Global Scholars, and Darwin T Turner.
