Tichenor Middle School Mentoring Program

About our Organization

The Tichenor Mentoring Program connects caring adult mentors with middle school students to provide guidance, support, and encouragement. Mentors meet with their assigned student once a week during the school day, with each session lasting for at least 30 minutes. Sessions may include activities, conversation prompts, or informal check-ins, giving students a safe space to connect with a consistent, positive role model.

To become a mentor, interested adults 21+ complete a volunteer application, submit a background check, and participate in a short orientation to review program expectations and resources. Mentors are paired with students based on shared interests and availability, allowing for a meaningful and sustained mentoring relationship throughout the school year.

How our organization engages UC students

UC students will participate in the TMS Mentoring Program by serving as weekly mentors for middle school students. They meet with their mentees for 30-minute sessions during the school day, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. Through mentoring, UC students gain hands-on experience in leadership, communication, and youth development, while helping students build confidence, set goals, and develop social-emotional skills.
