About our Organization

TechElevate is a nonprofit organization dedicated to bridging the digital divide and empowering the next generation of tech leaders. We believe in the power of technology education to transform lives and communities. Our mission is to provide accessible, high-quality tech education to underserved communities, fostering innovation, creativity, and problem-solving skills that are essential in today's digital world. We offer coding classes, digital literacy classes, scam prevention workshops, web development classes, cyberbullying workshops, and computer science tutoring. We also build free websites for nonprofits.

How our organization engages UC students

We offer various volunteer/intern positions for UC students in many fields, including: Java Teacher Internship/Volunteer - As a Virtual Java Teacher, you will teach two one-hour weekly Java classes over a 16-week session using TechElevate’s curriculum for middle school students. Training is provided, with volunteer hours credited, and all teaching materials are supplied—no lesson planning required. Applicants should have basic knowledge of Java, an interest in teaching, and a reliable computer with internet access. This role gives you the opportunity to help students learn programming in a beginner-friendly, interactive environment. Python Teacher Internship/Volunteer - Basic knowledge of Python is needed. You will be trained (you will receive hours for training as well) and will be committed to teach two 1 hr class (16 weeks) of Python classes. We use the CMU CS Academy Course for Middle Schoolers and our own curriculum. You will have access to our curriculum and won't have to make it yourself. Digital Literacy Teacher Internship/Volunteer - Help bridge the digital divide by teaching seniors essential tech skills and scam prevention. You’ll receive training on our curriculum (with hours counted) and then lead a 9-week program at a local senior center. This role is a chance to gain leadership experience, make technology safer and more accessible, and build meaningful intergenerational connections. Marketing/Social Media Internship/Volunteer - You will be responsible for handling our social media along with other volunteers on your team to create regular Instagram and TikTok posts. You will gain graphic design experience. Finance Specialist Internship/Volunteer - As a Finance Specialist, you'll lead fundraising efforts, write compelling grant proposals, and help manage the organization’s budget. You’ll pitch financial strategies to the Board of Directors and collaborate on events, outreach, and team initiatives. This role is perfect for someone with strong communication skills and an interest in business, finance, or nonprofit leadership. Community Outreach Internship/Volunteer - You will be working with the Marketing Volunteers to advertise classes (e.g. social media posts, Facebook outreach, hanging up flyers). You will also be working with teachers that teach digital literacy to find and email senior centers to ask to teach there. Content Writing (for newsletter or website) Internship/Volunteer - Looking for talented writers! We need someone who can do research and write a blurb about it for our newsletter. You will work with multiple departments to get updates and write about them to make our readers more informed. You will work with Website Development Volunteers to update the website with your new works. Business Analyst Internship/Volunteer - This role is responsible for reviewing class data, identifying trends, and providing data-driven recommendations to the Board of Directors. They also prepare clear, comprehensive reports to guide strategic decisions and demonstrate program impact. Programs Development Internship/Volunteer - This role focuses on creating and improving curriculum for TechElevate’s programs. This includes designing new learning modules, analyzing student data, and making recommendations to adjust curriculum based on outcomes and needs. Secretary Internship/Volunteer - You will be responsible for managing TechElevate’s communications, organizing meetings, and keeping records of important discussions and decisions. You will work with other volunteers to ensure smooth coordination, maintain schedules, and assist in drafting emails, announcements, and reports. Chapter Engagement Specialist Internship/Volunteer - This role helps expand TechElevate’s reach by promoting new chapters and supporting existing ones. They communicate with chapter leaders, assist in planning events, and strengthen connections between chapters and the broader organization.
